Acne Scars

Bellafill® Injectable Gel

Actual patient. Results may vary.

You Don't Have to Live With it Anymore

Although your acne may be long gone, its scars can hang around. Bellafill® fades these scars by adding volume to them, bringing them to the level of the surrounding skin and keeping them there through 1 year. Bellafill® is the first and only injectable filler that’s FDA approved to treat acne scars.

You may notice that you have multiple types of scars on your own face.

Inflammation plays a leading role in the formation of scars. The inflammation caused by acne can impact the healing process and diminish the amount of helpful collagen that occurs naturally in skin. The result is the uneven, pitted (atrophic) appearance of acne scars. While scars may fade over time, they often don’t go away completely without help.

How Can Bellafill® Help?

Bellafill® reduces the look of acne scars in 2 ways. Its remarkably small polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres are suspended in a smooth collagen gel. The diameter of each microsphere is less than that of a human hair, so they’re not visible to the naked eye.

Once injected by your practitioner, Bellafill® provides an immediate improvement that you can enjoy as soon as you leave the office. The PMMA microspheres form a supportive scaffold to allow your own collagen to build upon. As the gel breaks down over time, your collagen forms a foundation that adds volume to the acne scars providing a sustained improvement that can last. Want smooth, stress-free skin for a year? Bellafill® can make it happen.

Bellafill® is placed below the depression using a fine needle.

The injectable gel immediately adds volume to the skin to lift and smooth out wrinkles.

Bellafill is the only dermal filler on the market approved for the correction of moderate to severe, atrophic, distensible facial acne scars on the cheek in patients over the age of 21 years. It was approved for the correction of nasolabial folds in 2006. Bellafill requires a skin test to identify patients who may be allergic to the lidocaine or bovine collagen in Bellafill.

In the world of injectables, Bellafill is distinctive.

Bellafill works in two ways:

  • The collagen provides immediate volume below pitted acne scars to lift them to the level of the surrounding skin.
  • The PMMA microspheres create a matrix that supports your body’s own collagen production.

The Bellafill treatment is a safe, in-office procedure that takes a few minutes to administer.

The collagen in Bellafill provides immediate volume and lift while the PMMA microspheres remain in place and create a matrix that supports collagen production in your skin for lasting improvement.

What is Bellafill?

Bellafill is a dermal filler made with collagen gel and PMMA microspheres. The PMMA re-creates the firm structure of younger-looking skin by supporting production of your body’s own collagen.

What are the microspheres in Bellafill made of?

The microspheres are made of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), a biocompatible material that has been used in medical implants for 65 years.

How does it work?

The collagen in Bellafill provides immediate volume and lift while the PMMA microspheres create a matrix that supports production of the body’s own collagen over time. The microspheres are not absorbed by the body and provide a support matrix for lasting correction.

Will it work for me?

In a clinical trial, Bellafill was shown to work equally well with all skin types, and in men and women.4 If you have a bleeding disorder, a history of severe allergies, have known bovine collagen allergies, are allergic to lidocaine, or are prone to thick scar formation and/or excessive scarring, tell your licensed provider.

When will I see results?

Bellafill replaces lost volume in the skin below the acne scar for results that are immediate and lasting.

What’s the downtime?

You can return to normal activities right away. As with any injectable dermal filler, you may experience temporary swelling, redness, pain, bruising, lumps/bumps, itching, and discoloration at the treatment site. These side effects are usually transient and typically resolve within 1–7 days.

How long does it last?

The PMMA microspheres provide a microscopic ‘matrix’ to support your body’s own natural collagen production and re-create the firm structure of younger-looking skin for lasting correction.
